UK Student Visa Requirements for Pakistani Students 2026

Complete document checklist, financial proof rules, TB test locations, and everything you need to prepare a successful UK student visa application from Pakistan.

The UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4) requires you to have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a UKVI-licensed university, prove you can fund your tuition and living costs, and satisfy English language and health screening requirements. This page covers every document you need as a Pakistani student applying from Pakistan.

Quick Answer

Pakistani students need a valid passport, CAS from a licensed UK university, proof of English (IELTS 6.0+), financial evidence (28-day rule), and a TB test from an IOM-approved clinic in Pakistan.

One missing or incorrect document is the most common reason for UK visa delays. Our consultants review your full document package before you submit.

CAS — What It Is and How to Get It

Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is a unique 14-character reference number issued by your UK university. It is the foundation of your visa application — without it, you cannot apply for a UK Student visa. UKVI uses the CAS to verify your course details, your university’s sponsor licence, and the fees you have already paid.

What your CAS contains

  • Your full name and date of birth
  • Course name, level, and dates
  • University name and UKVI sponsor licence number
  • Tuition fees already paid vs outstanding
  • Your nationality and passport details

How to get your CAS

  1. Receive an unconditional offer from your UK university
  2. Pay the required tuition deposit (usually £1,000–£3,000)
  3. Complete any pre-CAS requirements (IELTS, documents)
  4. Request CAS through your university’s student portal
  5. Receive CAS within 5–10 working days
Important: CAS is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Apply for your visa promptly after receiving it. Your visa application must be submitted no later than 3 months before your course start date.

Financial Requirements (28-Day Rule)

UKVI requires you to demonstrate that you can pay your first year’s tuition fees plus a fixed living cost allowance. The critical rule: these funds must be held in your account (or your sponsor’s account) for 28 consecutive days before you submit your visa application.

London universities

Year 1 tuition + £12,006 (£1,334 × 9 months)

e.g. £20,000 tuition = £32,006 required ≈ ₨1.14 crore

Outside London

Year 1 tuition + £9,207 (£1,023 × 9 months)

e.g. £16,000 tuition = £25,207 required ≈ ₨89.9L

Accepted forms of financial evidence:

  • Personal bank statements (28-day maintained balance)
  • Sponsor’s bank statements + signed sponsor declaration letter
  • Education loan sanction letter from an approved Pakistani bank
  • Official scholarship or sponsorship letter (e.g. HEC, government scholarships)
28-Day Rule: The closing balance on every day across the 28-day period must meet the required amount. The 28-day period must end no more than 31 days before the date you submit your visa application. A single day where the balance drops below the required figure will invalidate your evidence.

TB Test in Pakistan (IOM-Approved Clinics)

Pakistan is on the UK’s list of countries where a tuberculosis (TB) test is mandatory for anyone applying for a visa valid for more than 6 months. You must be tested at an IOM (International Organization for Migration) approved clinic — results from any other clinic will not be accepted.

Karachi

Cost:Approximately ₨13,000
Result time:3–5 working days
Validity:6 months from test date
Who needs it:All Pakistani applicants for UK visa valid 6+ months
Tip: Book your TB test as soon as you receive your CAS, not the day before applying. If you test positive for latent TB you will need to complete a treatment course before the certificate is issued, which can take weeks.

English Language Requirements

Course LevelTypical IELTSNotes
Foundation YearIELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.5)Varies by university
Undergraduate (Year 1)IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5)Standard for most UK universities
Postgraduate (Master's)IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0)Some top universities require 7.0
Medicine / Law / MBAIELTS 7.0 (no band below 7.0)Higher standard, check university requirements

Accepted English tests: IELTS Academic, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, Duolingo English Test (university-dependent). Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency are also accepted by UKVI.

Medium of Instruction (MOI) exemption: If your Bachelor’s degree was taught entirely in English, some universities accept an MOI letter from your previous institution in lieu of IELTS. However, UKVI still requires an SELT (Secure English Language Test) for visa purposes at most course levels — check your specific university requirements.

Academic Documents & HEC Attestation

All academic documents from Pakistani institutions must be authentic, properly attested, and translated where necessary. For postgraduate applications, your Pakistani Bachelor’s degree must be attested by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Documents to prepare

  • ✓ Matriculation / O-level certificates and mark sheets
  • ✓ Intermediate / A-level / FSc certificates and transcripts
  • ✓ Bachelor’s degree certificate (HEC attested if Pakistani)
  • ✓ Bachelor’s transcripts (all semesters)
  • ✓ Any postgraduate degrees or diplomas

HEC attestation process

  1. Submit documents to your university for university attestation
  2. Submit attested docs to HEC (Islamabad or regional office)
  3. HEC verifies and stamps documents
  4. Get MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) attestation if required
  5. Timeline: 2–4 weeks total; allow extra time
Start early: HEC attestation can take 2–4 weeks and sometimes longer during peak periods. Begin this process as soon as you receive your conditional offer.

Common Mistakes Pakistani Applicants Make

1

Funds not maintained for the full 28 days

A dip in balance on any day during the 28-day window invalidates the evidence — even by a small amount.

2

TB certificate from non-IOM approved clinic

Results from private clinics or hospitals not on the IOM-approved list will be rejected outright.

3

Name mismatch across documents

Your name must match exactly on passport, CAS, bank statements, and offer letter. Even minor spelling differences cause delays.

4

Missing translations

Submitting Urdu-language transcripts or certificates without certified English translations is a very common oversight.

5

Forgetting HEC attestation for postgraduate applications

Pakistani Bachelor's degrees must be HEC attested for UK master's applications. Universities and UKVI both require this.

6

Applying too late

Applying within 4 weeks of your course start date gives very little buffer. Apply 6–8 weeks before the course begins.
